I LOVE THIS:

Today was pretty fun. Spent all day in Palmer with the family and various friends of the family for my brother's graduation party. Everyone really liked my Greek pasta salad, though I think maybe doubling it was too much. It's a good thing I like it, because I have a ton left over.

While I was out there, I was made to sign a bunch of copies of my book for various family members. Apparently, I have a distant relative (one of my mom's aunts, I think?) that really loves my books, and of course all three of my grandmothers wanted signed books... guys, it is really awkward to sign things. Just so you know.

And now I am tired. I am going to bed.

YESSSSS.

So the Boy Wonder* was graduated tonight. All the family is in town, and we all went to the ceremony tonight. As he crossed the staged I yelled out "GO BOY WONDER" but he didn't hear me, which is sad.

Tomorrow is his graduation party, and I made a big batch of Greek pasta salad for the occasion. Finely chopped kalamata olives, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, and artichoke hearts, plus feta cheese, plus lemon juice and the marinade from the olives and artichokes, all mixed in with orzo pasta. Well, orzo pasta + alphabet pasta + itty bitty stars pasta. It is for a graduation party, after all. I put it all together tonight and now it is in the fridge so all the flavors can get married and have little flavor babies** and it should be delicious by tomorrow afternoon. It probably won't fit in with the potato salad and smoked brisket and chips that will also be there, but it will be a delicious outcast.

When I walked in the house today, my brother called out "SO WHERE'S MY GRADUATION MONEY?" I promptly pulled a penny out of my coin purse and handed it to him. It was a 2009 penny, so not only was it shiny, it was highly fitting. I am so win. He didn't seem to appreciate it, though.

And now it is 1:15am and I need to go to bed. On Sunday, there is nothing planned, and I intend to spend Sunday playing Katamari Damacy all day long.*** Mmmmmmmmm solitude.

[livejournal.com profile] wistfulmaid linked to this site where I found this recipe for blue cheese steak rollups cooked in a crockpot and oh man WANT.

Also, I would like for it to b known that I suffered for Father's Day almost as much as I suffered for Mother's Day. We went to the Studio Movie Grill, and my dad picked The Happening. Guys, do not go see this movie. It was pretty stupid. The only "OMG!" bits were when something happened suddenly, with a loud noise. But those are cheap jumps, not real "OMG!"-ness. Also it was kind of gross the way some of the people killed themselves. But really there wasn't much in the way of suspense, mystery, tension, character development, or entertainment. And the ending was very, very... well, let's just say I did a real live facepalm. And then, after the movie, I stood up and my stomach said "whoa hey there, not so fast!" Apparently it wasn't getting along with the chicken fingers I had. We were going to walk around for a bit and then get ice cream, but just the thought about made my stomach mutiny so I ended up going home early.

So let's recap:
Mother's Day- horrible allergies from taking pictures outside, when I hate having my picture taken anyways.
Father's Day- horrible movie plus tummy mutiny

Clearly I am the World's Best Daughter, and my parents owe me big time. I mean, clearly.

And of course, when I got home I curled up in bed with Sierra Mist and Ibuprofen (did I mention the awesome caffeine headache I has on top of everything else? Yeah...) and fell asleep, so now I'm wide awake. And kind of hungry, considering the chicken fingers were all I ate today. I have the best timing.

ELEVEN DAYS. Moving Day cannot come soon enough. The closer it gets, the antsier I get.

Last night, a guy from craigslist came and picked up a telescope that's been in my closet for months. Apparently, he is from the FW Astronomical Society, and they collect old telescopes and fix them up to be given to kids. That is SO COOL. I am glad the telescope is going to a good home, I really hope it makes some kid super happy. No, scratch that, I hope it makes some kid realize how awesome astronomy is so that they go on to be the next Galileo or Stephen Hawking.

I have a few more things to get rid of- a broken lamp, speakers that don't plug in to anything, a broken printer. They have been collecting in my closet because I am the eternal optimist- maybe, just maybe, someday I'll get them fixed and it will be yay! But reality says no. I will miss my awesome lava lamp/floor lamp. I am going to try to find another one. My dad gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago and I've always loved it. I was so sad when it got knocked over. My grandpa looked at it and tried to fix it, but it's pretty much borked. Le sigh.

I am finalizing all my plans. Arranging timing is hard! In one weekend, I will be: working overtime, attending Megzilla's birthday shindig, moving on my own, moving with my dad's help, bug-bombing the crap out of my new apartment when I get all my stuff in there, cleaning my old place so that can't charge me a bajillion dollars for a speck of dust on the wall, washing every article of fabric I own, and trying to keep track of Tesla the whole time.

Why am I bug bombing the NEW place? Because it turns out that when you are living in an infested building, there is a huge chance of stowaways! Everyone say EWWW GROSS. That wigs me out so bad. But I've cleared it with the new place, they are 100% in favor of this plan. They also suggested washing everything, which I was planning on doing anyways, but they told me that eggs and larvae can stowaway in linens, curtains, etc. This I did not know. EW EW EW. I'm pretty much going to be sterilizing EVERYTHING as it goes in the new place. Some things I'm not even going to take. I went to a clearance sale today and got all new bedding- a pretty $120+ comforter for $30? yes please! I'm not taking my microwave, because apparently once they get into appliances they are impossible to get out- lovely!

I also need to figure out a time to do a walk-through with them so I can try to fix things before they charge me for them. I don't want to end up with a huge bill for stupid things, like they did to Jess. And I am taking LOTS of picture before I move. And video, showing "HAY THIS WORKS, DO NOT CHARGE ME FOR IT SAYING IT IS BROKE".

Yeah, I trust these people about as far as I can throw them. After the whole "No no no we're not going to install anything! OH HAY SURPRISE WE INSTALLED THIS THING WITHOUT TELLING YOU WE WERE COMING!" ordeal, they are pretty much on my "do not trust" list. In permanent ink.

TEN DAYS, ONE HOUR, AND THIRTY SEVEN MINUTES. If they think I'm NOT leaving work a bit early to go get my keys, they are very much mistaken. I'd go NOW if I could :-P

Anyways. I'm going to email my dad to try to work out a schedule, and then I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. The Pricing Race has begun at work (actually it began today, but I didn't have to get involved), and on top of that it's the middle of the shipping season and year-end is coming, which is like month-end only a billion times worse. We will probably be working late, but I can't work too late because I have to be at my aunt's by 7 to babysit the cousins. I'm taking my Wii remote with my Miis so I can share with them and play games with them. My cousins are pretty cools, guys :D

I need to remember to take my salsa to work tomorrow. I cooled it off with a little sugar, a little pineapple, and another can of tomatoes, and it's DELICIOUS. But I have a huuuge jar of it. Must share.

(Just don't ask me how much packing I didn't do this weekend. I blame Portal and Super Mario Galaxy. They held me at GUNPOINT and demanded that I play. GUNPOINT.)

I HAVE A CROCK POT. YESSSSSSSS.

It's a nifty one, too, with three different-sized bowls (2 quarts, 4 quarts, and 6 quarts) so I can do all sorts of fun things with it and YESSSS.

ALSO )

Oh! My brother! Guys, watching him open his "present" was AMAZING. It was a pretty big box, but he found the bubble wrap in the bottom pretty quickly. Unrolled it expecting to find something and- nothing. So he dug through the peanuts for a couple minutes, feeling all over the inside of the box. Eventually he grabbed the trash bag and start pulling out the peanuts a handful at a time, looking for his mystery present. After he had it empty, and was looking at the empty box with confusion, I handed him his gift card. It was pretty great. Man, my brother is so gullible. He really believed I had put something in there, and he was determined to find it, even when I started laughing at him. I think next year I'll tape a gift card to the underside of one of the flaps on the bottom, or at least slip it in there "accidentally", just to make him dig again. Hee hee hee.

Mmmmmmmmmmm I am loving this new Athlete album.

So, a couple months ago, I decided that I am going to enjoy the heck out of this Christmas, since last Christmas sucked so hard.

So far I am totally living up to my promise :D

I've got presents I'm excited to give, food I'm excited to take, this weekend has been both awesomely relaxed and wonderfully productive, and it's still only Christmas Eve! I'm pretty pumped, guys.

I made the nutella no-bake cheesecake, and judging by the sample from the edge of the mixing bowl (read: a spare saucepan since all my bowls were otherwise occupied) it is going to be delicious. I also made blue cheese potato salad, and if it turns out half as good as the batch I made the other day it will be wonderful. I've all my presents wrapped, and tomorrow I'm going to my aunt's house laden down with presents and food :D

I really don't even care what I get. I think this might be the first year I don't really have my heart set on getting something. I'm just excited to go make everyone else happy :D

This Christmas is going to be amazing, guys. Amazing.

I hope y'all can have a Christmas as amazing as mine. If you don't celebrate Christmas, have a WONDERFUL DAY anyways :D

It just hit me that I have THREE MORE WHOLE DAYS OFF. Sunday and Monday are just me and my apartment, except for trips to [livejournal.com profile] catmean's apartment to feed her cats, and Tuesday is Christmas.

I'm not halfway through the weekend, I am a mere 1/4 through the weekend. SWEET.

It's a four-day weekend, and the best part? I'll be paid for two of those days. I still can't believe my luck sometimes. Paid holidays! Man. Paid! Holidays! Those are magical words.

I'm taking [livejournal.com profile] wistfulmaid's Nutella Cheesecake and this Blue Cheese Potato Salad to my aunt's house for Christmas day. Between the food and the presents I'm taking, I predict I will be a very popular gal :D

I got Mason, my 5-year-old cousin, a SUPERHERO STARTER KIT, which comes with a red cape, various masks, stickers to make an emblem on a shirt, wrist guards (to protect against bad guys, bedtime, sisters, broccoli, sticks, and stones), and tips for creating a good superhero name. It is actually a really cool book, I might have to get more for other Short People I know. My favorite part is the "Super Do's" and "Super Don'ts". DO: Eat breakfast (Saving the day takes a lot of energy), brush your teeth, use phrases like "Don't do it bad guy!", use your cape in the rain (Rainwater will dry and make your cape even stronger), and Stand up straight, because no one trusts a sloppy hero. DON'T: Chew gum on the job, tuck your ape into your underwear, use phrases like "I'll save you at the next commercial", sneeze into your cape (it's just gross!), or brag, boast, strut, or high-five yourself. The pictures in this book are amazing- kids running around in superhero getup.

What I'm saying is that I want this book for myself. But because I love my cousin, I will give it to him.

For my other cousin, Madison, I bought three CHOOSE-YOUR-OWN-ADVENTURE books. WIN! I'm pretty excited that these are being sold again. I think she'll dig them. She's almost 10 (geez! She is almost ten??? When did that happen???) and she's just at the right age for them.

Ahhhhhhh. While I was at B&N, I got their toasted marshmallow hot chocolate. I am very sad that their toasted marshmallow syrup is seasonal. I am tempted to buy a bottle to keep at Coffee Haus. The stuff is delicious. I wonder if bearded coffee guy would let me do that. He would probably give me lots of dirty looks and threaten me with a marker.

My apartment is overrun with boxes! Packed boxes, empty boxes, flattened boxes. Tesla is having a blast. Sitting on them, or in them, or leaping out of them on Very Important Business. Or leaping IN to them on Very Important Business. You know. Cat Business. It is Important Stuff.

Tesla knows I'm talking about her. She is sitting on my mouse. Hussy. I'll show her! POST!

So I'm taking my cat to my parents' house for Thanksgiving tomorrow. This will be interesting, as Tesla historically does not like other cats. As in, she sits in the window and waits for other cats to walk by so she can try to fight them through the window. And my parents have three cats. Of course, Tesla has been declawed (I didn't do it, Megan did, I don't like declawing kitties) and the three cats at the house have not, so Tesla should learn pretty quickly that fighting is a Bad Idea, and that Maulie is the Alpha Kitty. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to Mena, though. Mena is the dumb one who like to "play".

So I went to Petsmart tonight and got a kitty harness (since collars are not good for cats if you are planning on using a leash) and a matching leash (they have stars and moons on them! yay!) and a cardboard cat carrier to use for this trip.

I put the harness on her tonight.

Oh, hilarity.

She kind of just kept rolling over and over, trying to bite at the bit behind her back. And for a while she wouldn't stand up, she just belly-crawled everywhere. I should have taken video, but I was too busy laughing hysterically to do much else. But she is used to it now, and is walking around like normal except for occasional belly-crawls. I think I will take it off before bedtime so she can cuddle up comfortably under the blanket.

It is cold tonight! The temperature pretty much dropped like a rock starting at about 11am this morning. It is 41 degrees right now. It is loooooovely. I'm trying to decide if I want to crack open my window before I go to bed. I probably will. Yes, I am THAT person.

OH OH OH OH. AND. AAAAANNNND. And. AND. I bought. With my money. NEW MAGIC HEADPHONES. Except they were $20 cheaper in the store than online. Weird. ANYWAYS. They are SUPAR COMFY and TOTALLY AWESOME and I LOVE THEM. AAAAAAAAAND. I feel all kinds of cool because I totally budgeted for them. I kind of want to just pet them.

So I made a smores pie for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I can't wait to dig in to it. I made it with more marshmallow fluff than the first time I tried it, so it should be good and marshmallow-ey.

I should go to bed so I can get there early enough to spend lots of time with my daddeh (and I guess my mom and brother) before my daddeh leaves to go shoot things.

Ooo look, new icon!

Today, I went out to my parents' house for my dad's birthday, and I was wearing my new jeans. My dad looked at me and asked "Are you losing weight?" and I went "eeeeeeeeeee" in my head. Out loud, though, I said that I wasn't yet, I was just wearing new jeans that actually fit.

I kind of can't wait to go to work tomorrow to see how people react there :D

Also, I went to the gym tonight. It was good.

Ha ha ha ha, that's the dorkiest subject line ever. Wow. I'm amazed.

ANYWAYS, I currently have, in my refrigerator, TONS of leftovers from my aunt's Labor Day Shindig. I've got steaks, chicken, two containers of potato-cheesy-stuff, fancy shmancy gourmet baked beans (the label shows the price... ouch!), deli cheese, and other assorted sundries. Mmmm mmm, I'm gonna be eatin' good. My aunt made a lot of food, and my uncle haaaaaates leftovers, so win for me. Also, because my uncle works for some produce company (I'm not sure exactly what he does, but apparently he's good at it because their house is ginormous), they had a whole crate of granny smith apples, so I got a bag of those too. I've got one on my desk now, calling to me, looking yummy.

And then, today, a coworker brought me a mini George Foreman grill, the one just big enough for one person. It's exactly the one I was looking at online a few weeks ago. Well, not exactly... it's better, as it has a bun warmer on top in case I make burgers on it. Swanky!

I kind of like being everyone's charity case. I'm so blessed to be surrounded by people with so much extra they can just give to me. I'd never be able to afford this stuff on my own. <3
