Okay, so I have the results from my first NaNoWriMo poll.

The screencap is kind of big )

I've got Poll #2 up now, and I'll be running it until about Sunday night sometime. You should all go vote. Right now. For seriously.

[Poll #1465719]

Question 1: I pretty much never make my bed. I don't see the point- I'm just going to sleep again and mess it up again, right? Once, when I was a kid, between the ages of 5-8 because I was still going to that one elementary school, my mom told me I absolutely had to make my bed before I went to school. My response? "Why? I'm not taking my bed to school or anything." And then my mom realized with horror that I am indeed my dad's daughter.

Question 2: I'M GETTING SO ANTSY, GUYS. I want to start posting the polls NOW. I want to see what I'm going to be writing! I've already decided that when I post the polls, I'm going to leave them up for at least a few days, and I'm not going to look at the results until each poll finishes. Unless it drives me batty and I can't resist looking.

PS: All of you should go watch the community of the polling and help vote on what's gonna happen in my novel.

PPS: The ants from my previous post are ALL DEAD. When I got home yesterday, I noticed lots of black stuff all around the ant hills. When I got closer, I realized the black stuff was dead ants. Whatever the bug guy put down, those ants are DEAD. I do believe I won this war. That'll teach them to bite me in my sleep. *shakes fist at stupid ants*

Books!

Let's talk about BOOKS!

I love rereading favorite books. It's like an old comfy t-shirt for my brain. Sometimes I will get something akin to a craving for a certain book, and I just want to curl up and reread it. Right now, I'm rereading (well, sort of) a favorite podiobook. Quarter Share. It's just a good book, and I like the characters. They are like old friends.

What about y'all? Do you reread books or are you always looking for only new things?

(Also: Still looking for opinions on T-Mobile)

Ramen

I like ramen.

[Poll #1174450]

Also, while I am generally (IMHO) a pretty amazing cook, I must admit that sometimes my culinary experiments are less than successful. Like tonight's experiment, which shall not ever, ever be repeated. Potatoes + chicken + Italian dressing + crockpot = FAIL. Edible, but not so tasty as I expected. Shoulda gone with the Tonkastu sauce.

PHIL PLAIT THE BAD ASTRONOMER IS GOING TO BE AT TCC TOMORROW AND OH MAN I HOPE I CAN GO BECAUSE PHIL PLAIT THE BAD ASTRONOMER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

*ahem*

I really, really, reeeeeeeally want to go to this. Unfortunately, I just found out about two minutes ago, and it's at 12:20pm tomorrow. Right in the middle of the work day. It'd be a little over an hour round-trip, and the thing itself will go till 1:30.

But maaaaaaaannnnnnnnn I wanna goooooooo. Phil Plait! PHIL PLAIT. We're not tremendously busy, and they know I'm always there. I practically never take sick days, I'm always on time (give or take 4 minutes), I get stuff done... it's possible, even though I'd be asking at the complete last minute. But PHIL PLAIT.

This is the man who debated one of those crazy "we never went to the moon" conspiracy guys, one of the really big names, and totally laid the science smackdown on the dude, live on the air. Every time the conspiracy guy would try to make an argument, BAM! SCIENCE IN THE FACE.

Aaahhhhhhhhh, I want to go. I wanna go I wanna go I wanna goooooo.

IN COMPLETELY UNRELATED NEWS:

[Poll #1171307]

I ask this because it came up tonight. While trying to figure out if Jess was suffering from allergies or a cold, I asked what I thought was a typical "mom" kind of question- "What color is your snot?"

I was answered with naught but a blank stare. Apparently not everyone's mom asks this question!

You see, when you're sick, your mucus turns yellow or green from the crud that is in it, the dead bacteria and such that your body is fighting off. It is a sign of some sort of infection. If it is clear, then there's no infection, just an excess of mucus. So asking someone about the color of their snot is a valid diagnostic query.

I can see how it would be a really weird question if you'd never heard of this, though.

The fun part of working Saturdays and Sundays is how it really screws with my sense of time and what day it is. Right now it feels like it is midnight on a Friday night- I'm tired and ready to go to bed and sleep in. But no! Tomorrow is Monday, the beginning of a new week. Never mind that this week didn't have an end, the next one is ready and rarin' to go!

Yeah, I got no packing done this weekend. Ha! I am so made of win.

HEY JESS (and also everyone else) YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT THE LATEST EPISODE OF THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS' VIDEO PODCAST FOR KIDS. They did an animation for "I Never Go To Work" and it is A MILLION KINDS OF AWESOME. There are trumpets! And a rhinoceros!

Here, have a poll:

Character

Dec. 23rd, 2007 06:26 pm
jesso: (Hope Flower)
So I've been thinking some thoughts about character and what it means to me, prompted both by recent events and that quiz thingy I did last night. I'm solidifying my thoughts, and I want to post them soon, but first I want to know what y'all think about character. Specifically, what makes a person's character good or bad? What does character count for? What does character mean, in the long run?

I'm screening comments. If you like, I can unscreen them, just let me know. I really just want to know what you guys have to say about this.
