The Else - An Extremely Unprofessional Review

Ok. The Else. They Might Be Giants' birthday gift to me.

That I, uh, had to pay for. *cough*

I'll admit, on my first listen? I was doubtful. I doubted the Johns. Especially with the first track. See, the first track is sung by Linnell, but it doesnt sound like him at all, and my first reaction was a resounding "Noooooooo! Linnell! Don't change! I love you how you are!" followed by much worried whimpering.

Add to that the fact that all the tracks sound pretty much Very Different from the TMBG songs I know and love, and I was quite worried by the time I got to work.

But as I settled in to work on my invoices, and could actually hear the musics and lyrics without traffic noises (driving with the windows down is noisy), it started to grow on my. You see, TMBG is a band that has to grow on me. At first I was indifferent to the band itself, then it grew on me. When The Spine came out, I did not really like it at first, then it grew on me and now I like it. Whenever I got new mp3s, I had to take time to warm up to them. I don't know why this is, but there you go. I end up loving it, but it just takes time.

Well, except for the children's albums. NO! and the ABCs I fell in love with pretty much immediately. Apparently I am 5 years old at heart! No wonder I secretly love coloring.

ANYWAYS. This album started growing on me from the second listen. That is pretty dang fast! It might be because The Mesopotamians is right at the end of the album, and therefore right before the beginning (I loop things!), and it is an AWESOMETASTIC SONG OF GLEE. Either way, it grew on me.

I ended up listening to it pretty much all day. I still am. Except when I stopped to watch some episodes of Heroes, that is.

To sum up: This album is OMG GOOD. I like it very much, and it is an excellent birthday present.

In other news, in 24 hours I will have a PAPASAN CHAIR in my apartment (and fondue in my tummy)! My glee knows no bounds!
