KILL TEH KITTEH
Aug. 24th, 2008 01:23 pmThis morning, I woke up to this:

Hawking had dragged my yarn all over my apartment. The end of the yarn was in my living room, the big tangles mess was in my closet, and my sock was in the corner of my bedroom behind my papasan.
One good thing:

The needles were still in the stitches. If it had come unraveled I would have flipped my lid. Unfortunately, though, two of the needles were gnawed on and are pretty much ruined. You can kind of see one of the tips in that picture up there.
Oh, and the best part:

That's the bag my knitting was in. I rolled up the sock, put it in the bag with the yarn, then put in my pattern and notes and pen, then tied it shut. It was on the back corner of my desk.
What I'm saying here is that Hawking is now disowned, forever.
Also, it's the last day of the Olympics and I'm short two needles and my yarn is a hopeless tangled mess. FUN.

I HAVE A SOCK.
I kind of screwed up on the toe, but it fits well enough that I'm not worried. It only looks funny if you look really closely. And I know what I messed up so I can get it right next time.
Also: I have a week to knit another sock. Yeeep.

KNITTING GLEE
Aug. 15th, 2008 12:46 am
The color in the picture is off, because it's half past midnight and I can't be bothered to fix it, but LOOK AT IT. THAT IS SEVEN AND A HALF INCHES OF SOCK CUFF. THAT I KNIT.
Also, since I only have one copy of the pattern, and it's not available anywhere online (because it came with the yarn as a promotion), I reeeeaaaaalllllly don't want to mark up the pattern. So I'm doing this:

(the cable pattern is 16 rows long, and you have to do it 4.5 times, so I wrote out the numbers 1-16 four times, then 1-8. I mark off each row as I knit it, and that way I can keep track of where I am on the pattern without having to do a lot of guesswork or remembering. Win.)
I'm 8 rounds away from the heel. *glee*

And now I am going to

Guys, I'm going to be talking about these socks a lot over the next two weeks. I'm really excited. I'm knitting socks!

August Rush.
Aug. 9th, 2008 06:58 pmSo, first off, let me just say that I am an absolute sucker for stories where the main character hopes for something and works for it and wants it so bad he can taste it and hopes hopes hopes...
So yeah. August Rush made me cry. My heart went out to that kid, and by the end I was sort of just sitting there flailing about, rooting him on.
But BEFORE the end, I totally knit almost an inch of the cuff of my
craft_olympics socks. I had to cast on twice, but then it was all 1x1 ribbing so yay. Perfect for movie-watching.
Next up is Astronaut Farmer, I think, and more knitting. Yaaaaaaay knitting <3
edit: Astronaut Farmer is love.

GUYS. I know I've already told you to go read
xlormp, but really for real you need to. Today's chapter is hilarious and almost had me shooting alfredo out my nose. I'm glad I didn't, because that would have been uncomfortable and would have had my coworkers giving me funny looks.
ANYWAYS.
Also, I have started working on my
craft_olympics project. I finally got the correct needles last night, so I started knitting a swatch in the round this morning at break and I'll probably cast on For Realz tonight. Socks! I am going to knit socks! I was looking at the pattern, though, and man the heel looks scary. I've never turned a heel before! It will be a fun adventure.

So I'm starting to get really excited for the
craft_olympics. I've got my yarn and my pattern, and I'm rarin' to go. I am going to try to find Size 1 double-point needles tomorrow, but I'm prepared to use my (slippery!) Addi Turbo circulars if I have to.
And now I'm just working out my movie playlist. You see, I plan on watching movies while I knit, because that is just what you do when you do a lot of knitting. My list:
~Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (I finally own this on DVD!)
~Netflix movies I've been holding forever: August Rush, Astronaut Farmer, and the Futurama movie
~Amelie
~The entire Wonderfalls series
~The entire Pushing Daisies series
~Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (The BBC TV series and the movie)
~Princess Bride
~Garden State
~Alice in Wonderland (from Netflix)
If I don't finish these socks, it won't be for lack of videos.

Aug. 5th, 2008 10:16 pmIn other news, I really need to get a new mouse. Hawking apparently gnawed on the cord for this one, just enough that sometimes it thinks I'm double-clicking when I'm not. I'm actually kind of glad- I really want a wireless mouse like the one I use at work, and I've just been waiting for a good excuse to get one. see those buttons on the side? Yeah, that's "back" and "forward". I keep trying to click those buttons at home, but unfortunately my mouse is lame and only have three buttons.
Oh, and hey!
