- Yesterday I shot video of myself, learned how to edit video, then signed up for myspace in order to submit said video to a contest to meet Muse. THE THINGS I DO FOR THIS BAND.

- I like the new Doctor. It will take me some time to get used to him, I think, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to love him. I already love Amy. Girl's got her sassypants on.

- Despite how much I hate the allergy part of it, Spring is really a pretty season. I always forget how much I like the sight of new green grass blowing in the breeze before they cut it. In traffic on the highway today, I got to watch the tall grass on the sides of the highway and it was nice. Bright green grass and bright green trees and pretty blue skies. So pretty. If only I could live in a bubble for the season, it'd be great.

- Have I mentioned that I've got a third cat here? I'm keeping [livejournal.com profile] feigned_living's cat Janet while she looks for an apartment. Janet is both sweet & adorable AND rotten & evil. One minute she'll be purring on my lap, the next she'll be tearing after Hawking wanting to "play". The cat drama in the apartment is epic. Hawking and Janet are almost friends, though- today they were chasing each other around without any growling! For about 10 minutes! I was shocked. Tesla is still standoffish, though.

- Actually, Tesla is amazing. When Janet started harassing Hawking more than Hawking liked, Tesla totally slapped Janet on the top of the head to get her to leave Hawking alone. I kiiiiiind of wanted to give her a high five, except she's a cat. She's been really protective of Hawking, and it's really sweet. Tesla is such a momma cat, even without her claws. But I made the appropriate "hey I do not like fighting" noises, because that's the thing to do.

- There was a notice on my car this morning from the Arlington Police Department. Apparently they came around and did a sort of inspection of cars, to check for things that would make a car a target for burglary, and then left "report cards". My car passed. I thought it was pretty cool that they would do something like that, just as a public service. I really do like the Arlington PD. Every time I've had to deal with them (due to Ben Garcia or Beatrice Sandovall's warrants) they've been super nice. I know cops can have a bad rap in some cities, but Arlington police have always been awesome in my experience.

- I used to talk to these guys online all the time, back in 2001-2004 or so, and now they are touring Europe. I am so happy for them. That is so cool. Also, it seems they've stuck with this band name for more than three seconds, which is a new record I think!

- Actually, I'm really proud of them, honestly. They have won an NME award and apparently Morrissey went to see their show. That is super awesome.

- I am babysitting 4 of the next 6 nights.

- I really want to scrape the stickers off the back window of my car, and get new ones.

- I've had the urge to do something ridiculous for a while now. I shall use some of my babysitting funds to do something ridiculous. I'm not sure what it will be yet, but it will be ridiculous, and also epic.

- Janet is currently chasing her tail. Enthusiastically.

- I'm sleepy, so I'm going to bed.

The upside to PaperBackSwap.com is that I get lots of books.

The downside is that I want to read them ALL. Right NOW.

I now have FOURTEEN George MacDonald books, plus one lulu.com copy of his "Unspoken sermons". I rearranged my bookshelf so that they could all be together in one big happy book family, and it makes me happy to see them all lined up. Now if only someone would post a copy of The Princess and Curdie my heart would be truly happy.

In other news, Hawking is being unbearably whiny. As in, constant meowing for long stretches of time. It's like she is begging for attention but when I go to actually pet her or something, she runs away. Her favorite places to whine are in the bathroom or in my bedroom. This morning I was about ready to tape her mouth shut because she decided to start it up around 7:30am and it took two full hours before she decided that she wanted to sleep under the blankets with me. Then she curled up and zonked right out like it was nothing. She's like a toddler who is tired, but doesn't WANT to be tired, so she gets whiny and crabby instead. And it makes me want to stuff her in a box and ship her to Siberia. I don't know why she is doing this all of a sudden. She used to do it occasionally, but it's been nightly all this week. And then this morning. And then now. And she needs to cut it out.

In other other news, today's high was 40. Yesterday's high was 80. People are, of course, freaking out. I am enjoying this brief taste of winter, and tactfully NOT pointing out that it's not "FREEEEEEZING" because it is still above 32 degrees.

Okay, off to more reading. Mmmmmmmmm books.

So I have some pictures I've been meaning to post. I got my cats a new gold litter box, and they like it. Also there are a few random pictures of them being cat-ish. Then there are pictures of the my new silverware, and also of muffins I made today, because ohhhhhhhh they are good.

Pictures of kitties and muffins )

PS: My mood icon is 112% perfect for this post. Because I am full of muffins, and so is Pat. There are even muffins in the picture! I love my Wonderfalls mood theme.

So Hawking has started doing this thing where she will sit in the other room and just meow these pitiful, pathetic, whining meows, like she is about to die or something. And she's LOUD. Loud, and constant.

About half the time, she'll meow pitifully for a while, then jump up and attack the blinds in my bedroom.

If I call back to her, she just meows in response and then keeps on with her pitiful self.

I have no idea what she wants, other than duct tape. For her mouth.

I swear, it's like she's in heat, except she has no girlie parts left. I think she's just doing it to be aggravating. Because she is evil.

My cats are so spoiled.

[livejournal.com profile] catmean gave me a kitty water fountain a while back, sometime last year. I've been using it since then, and both cats love it. Hawking has never had to drink from anything else since I brought her home, except when she drinks from a faucet.

Today when I went to refill it, I noticed the inside was looking kind of icky, so I hauled the whole thing into the bathroom and gave it a good rinse. I'm letting it dry out now, so I can give it a good cleaning later. In the meantime, I've filled a bowl with water and set it down where the fountain usually sits.

Oh my goodness, you'd think I was trying to poison them.

They are both deeply suspicious of it. Hawking keeps sniffing at it, then giving me these looks like she's saying "What the heck? What is this crap?". Tesla just won't go near it.

Then I slipped two small ice cubes in it. Ohhhhh man, that did not go over well. I didn't see it happen, but I think Hawking tried to attack them. All I know is that the ice cubes are not in the bowl anymore and there is a lot of water splashed around the bowl on the floor.

My cats, they are so special.

This morning, I woke up to this:

Hawking had dragged my yarn all over my apartment. The end of the yarn was in my living room, the big tangles mess was in my closet, and my sock was in the corner of my bedroom behind my papasan.

One good thing:

The needles were still in the stitches. If it had come unraveled I would have flipped my lid. Unfortunately, though, two of the needles were gnawed on and are pretty much ruined. You can kind of see one of the tips in that picture up there.

Oh, and the best part:

That's the bag my knitting was in. I rolled up the sock, put it in the bag with the yarn, then put in my pattern and notes and pen, then tied it shut. It was on the back corner of my desk.

What I'm saying here is that Hawking is now disowned, forever.

Also, it's the last day of the Olympics and I'm short two needles and my yarn is a hopeless tangled mess. FUN.

Awwwww
Hawking was pretty much the most pathetic thing ever when I brought her home.

*snerk*
Look at her, trying to be dignified with her little half-shaved leg. Awwwwwww.

Splat
I don't think I've ever seen a cat sit with their legs splayed like that.

Leaning Tower of Kitty
Leaning Tower of Kitty
Makes you feel lopsided if you look at her too long, doesn't it?

The condensed version of events:
  • When I dropped her off at the vet, the lady had to literally peel Hawking off of me. Seriously. At one point, there was a claw stuck in the skin of my neck. Hawking kind of panicked.

  • The vet himself called me to say she was out of surgery and doing okay. I still can't get over that. That is super cool. Usually it's just an assistant or something that makes calls. I really like that the vet called. I love this Banfield place.

  • Yeah, I left work early to pick up rescue my kitten. What of it? She is my little baby, after all.

  • She whined the whole. way. home.

  • When we got home, she wanted to lay in her carrier box, but Tesla wanted to sit on it and kept flattening it. I fixed it with tape. That poor box.

  • Tesla is being downright mean! I think Hawking probably smells different, either like the vet's office or like the meds she's on or something. Tesla is having nothing to do with her.

  • They gave me a small bottle of kitty pain meds for her. I have never had a vet send home pain meds. I'm considering changing her name temporarily to House while she is on her kitty drugs. But not really.

  • Hawking is sleeping a lot. Poor thing. But she is doing fine! She's moving normally, if a bit slow and clumsy still. Also, her stitches are those cool "inside stitches" or whatever, so she can't chew on them. This is a huge relief. I was really worried about how I was going to keep her from chewing on stitches, given her tendency to chew on everything else.

  • The new Notwist album is really good

(And I promise that after this I'll start putting pictures under cuts again.)

  • Hawking is still not happy with me. She'll let me pet her, but she's sleeping on my desk instead of in my lap like usual, and she won't let me hold her. If I try to pick her up, she just wiggles away and curls up on my desk and gives me a Look. She is going to haaaaate me when I take her to get gutted spayed.

  • Just watched the most recent episode of Dr Who. Downloaded this and the last episode out of curiousity when I saw all the hubbub over last week's episode. Am downloading old episodes (starting with the 9th Doctor) so that I can have some clue as to what's going on, but I enjoyed it muchly even clueless as I was.

  • Finished The Dirty Job, it is wonderful. Christopher Moore is my hero.

  • I've been on a podcast kick lately. I've been listening to This Week In Science again, and I've added Radiolab to my collection. I've been going back and listening to a old episodes, as they seem to be between seasons now, and oh yes. I love it. Oh, and Escape Pod is love, too.

  • Long weekend = yes.

  • Tomorrow = Book club + Wall-E = yes

  • I am now going to lay down and read The Alchemist even though I've already read it a couple bajillion times.

I have discovered a new noise to make to annoy my cats. It's kind of like an extended "vvvv" sound. It is amazing.

Every night, when I get into bed, Hawking tries very hard to get into my pants. No, really. She tries to crawl up the leg of my pajama pants. Unfortunately, my leg gets in the way, so she only gets her head in the pants leg before giving up and making pathetic "woe is me" noises. Then I roll over on my back so she can sleep on my chest/throat because I am a sucker.

I talk about my cats far too much. I can't help it! They are endlessly amusing creatures. Except when Hawking is destroying wires (She did it again today! Good thing I had a spare set of computer speakers) or unplugging things. That's not so much amusing as incredibly frustrating. CHEW ON THE CATNIP TOYS, KITTEH, OR I LOCK YOU IN A TINY BOX FOR A YEAR.

By the way, I think it was my breakfast that had me all queasy. I tried a crockpot breakfast recipe, and while it tasted good, I've noticed that just thinking about it makes me feel nauseated. I don't think I'll be having the leftovers again tomorrow.

Also! I might be murdered in my sleep by robots! They are clearly out to get me. I've gotten no less than SEVEN calls from an unidentified phone number, and each time it only beeped at me when I answered. I decoded the super secret message and it said "DIE, HUMAN, DIE". Trufax!

Okay, not really. But I did get 7 weird beepy phone calls. I eventually just started making beeping noises back at the killer robots on the other end of the line.

So much capslock in this post. I'm so tired and woooo. Bed time.
