Tonight, rather than do anything productive, I spent way too much time redoing the layout of my journal. It all started with wanting to find a new default icon (Hello, Pleiades!) and then kind of aimlessly poking at the style options and then searching for a community for the Flexible Squares style to see if I could find any interesting layouts and... yeah. I found one, and then changed the background, and then started digging through the CSS to change little things like font sizes.

And this is how my entire night disappeared.

Someday, when I am not so sleepy, I will finish the job and move all the images to my own hosting ("for safies", according to the gal who made the layout) and figure out how the change the color on the half-circle thingies and how to change the color of the parentheses around an lj-cut and how to add a tags link. But all of that requires deciphering code, and man, I'm sleepy. I just don't feel like it now. Of course, this means it will probably never get done, but... I'm okay with that.

I took pictures as requested! Plus lots of extras, just because. )

And then, [livejournal.com profile] sngingcircusdog posted a meme about ICONS. Since I have about a billion icons (where a billion = 160), I decided this would be a good idea. TEH RUELS:
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Iconses! )

Whew. I've been working on this entry for over an hour! Geez louise. Time for bed!

So, as a permanent account holder, I now can have up to 195 icons. Guh. I had previously hit my limit of 145, after thinking that surely I would never get that many EVER, and now I seem to be working my way up to 195. This is one of my new ones. It amuses me.

I'm knitting! I am working on my super secret project that I can't mention publicly, and it is WORKING. Intarsia in the round, which everyone says is all impossible? Yeah, I'm totally doing it. And it looks awesome. Because I'm an awesome knitting ninja. I really might have to knit two, so I can keep one for myself.

I also got yarn on Saturday for Rogue. I've decided that with my new intarsia superpowers I'm going to do colored cables. I cannot wait to start. No, wait, I can't wait to finish because it will look amazing.

I haven't been knitting very much lately. I don't think I've knit a single stitch since the Olympics. I'd forgotten how exciting it is to start a new project, and how amazing it is to learn a new technique. It's such a rush. It sounds funny to say that about knitting, which has a reputation for being a hobby of old ladies, but seriously it is so much fun.

My chemistry final is tomorrow. I should probably finish reviewing. My notebook is open in front of me. I am, in fact, typing around it right now. I should stop typing and work one of these problems to make sure I still remember how. I haven't done these since October, and my memory is pretty sieve-like. Yes, this is what I will do. And I will stop typing now.

SERIOUS BUSINESS.

So someone posted in a comm with a few icons, with the usual "the rest are over here, comment if you take them!" thing. Only, it mentioned two things that caught my attention: 1) it commanded that you upload graphics to your own server, and 2) You have to join the comm to see anything at all. And then I checked, and hey! It's a moderated community!

So. To see any of the icons (which were just cropped-down screencaps from Pushing Daisies- nothing added to them AT ALL to make them unique), you have to apply to join the comm, wait for them to approve you, and then find the appropriate post.

Because, you know, icons are serious business.

So I asked her about it! )

So then I hot-linked one of her icons and put it on my LJ without credit. I predict the internets will self-destruct in about.......... five minutes, give or take. I could probably speed it up if I modified the icon, but I'm in no rush.

Guys, I think I've found a new game. I'm going to see how many graphics-makers I have to badger until I can get a straight answer as to why they insist on making people jump through firey hoops of death to look at little 100x100-pixel pictures. Especially when they aren't that good, like in this case. This icon on this post? Is one of the three icons the poster was using to lure people into joining her comm. Because it's, you know, so stunning. I can tell a lot of work went into cropping and resizing this screencap into a little square!

Yoink this icon. I found a screen shot from some random Peter Pan game and played with it and made this.

Merry Christmas!

The End.
