So, um. A burning pain in my shoulder is probably a bad thing, right?

I mean, I got the worst of the neck pain to go away, and the headache it caused is fading, thanks to ibuprofen, but this shoulder pain is still just a-burnin' away.

I need a better pillow. I've pretty consistently woken up with a sore neck for the past several months. Actually, I guess since last August. It's been getting worse and more common, and some days the neck pain follows me all day and gives me killer headaches. I do not like it. But the thing is, my current pillow arrangement works pretty well unless I fall asleep the wrong way.

See, I toss and turn a lot before I fall asleep. When I lay on my back, two pillows is too thick and it tilts my head at a horrible angle, so I flip one up and prop it against the wall. When I lay on my side, one pillow is too flat and doesn't hold my head up, so I bring the top pillow back down and it's about right.

But I tend to curl up, sometimes, and if I fall asleep curled up, my head gets stuck in a horrible angle that hurts like the dickens in the morning. Like, chin towards my chest because I'm curled up, and turned a little bit from the angle of the pillows. So the right back neck muscle is full o' pain in the morning (I tend to fall asleep on my right side if I'm on my side), and sometimes it won't go away.

And some days, like today, I'm extra lucky and get a lovely shoulder pain to match it! Woo!

It's really, really fun being me sometimes.

OH, and extra bonus points:
1) Last night I did laundry, and hauled my clothes back in the basket, then fell asleep before I could fold them. And they weren't fully dry because our dryers suck sometimes (Or maybe because I overfilled them but PFFT). So alllllll my shirts are super wrinkly!
2) I forgot my (totally sexy) workout pants for my wonderful superawesome phys ed class, so even if I go to class tonight I won't get credit for it! But if I don't go, he will inevitably give us a quiz (that's not on the syllabus but he'll be mad that we weren't expecting it, because telepathy is apparently expected of us).
3) I am very tired because Tesla has taken to having loud conversations with a stray outside the window in the middle of this night. I have taken to locking her in the bathroom when this happens, but it still wakes me up.

Geez, I am a grumpypants today. I'm going to go highlight things now. YAY HIGHLIGHTERS!

I had a similar problem with my pillows recently, and my mom suggested a neck roll pillow and/or one of those contour memory foam pillows. Try that maybe?

I want to? But those good ones are expensive, and some part of my brain simply refuses to spend a lot of money on a pillow, because it's "just a pillow" and it's not even a guarunteed fix. I've yet to convince that part of my brain that it'd be worth it.

Un-fun. My head and back are both a mess today, so we can be in pain together. Yay for pain friends!

Try making a conscious effort not to toss and turn right when you feel like you're about to sleep. I have to do that sometimes or I end up on my stomach (i.e. "flat"), which means my head is turned to the extreme side (parallel to my shoulder) and I wake up not being able to turn my head in the opposite direction. :/

Thankfully, since I started making a cognizant effort when I feel very tossy-turny, I can honestly say that the neck problem hasn't happened since. MAYBE THERE IS A CORRELATION but who really knows.

I try? But it sometimes just takes so dang LONG to fall asleep. I get bored!

But I do try to not let myself fall asleep in positions that will make me hurt... I'm just not always succcessful.

Oh boy, I can feel the ibuprofen starting to wear off. Time for another dose! Whee drugs!

If you won't get credit regardless if there is a quiz or not, DON'T GO. Come watch American Idol and that new show Drive staring MALCOLM REYNOLDS OF FIREFLY FAME tonight! :) :) :)

Try sleeping like I do: spread eagle with a faceplant into the pillow. Works for me!

Sleeping facedown makes me feel like I can't breathe. I have to have my head turned to one side, and that makes the neck hurt, too, if kept up for very long.

Basically my body hates me and there is no happy medium.
